Albuquerque, NM – Breezy and dry weather will mark today across New Mexico, but residents should prepare for a shift this weekend, with a significant storm bringing rain, colder temperatures, and potential flooding. Areas around Roswell and Lake Arthur face the highest flood risk on Sunday as heavy rain moves into central and eastern New Mexico, with up to an inch of rainfall possible. Residents should plan for possible road closures and caution on highways due to standing water.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, today’s high winds will impact visibility on major roadways, with gusts reaching 25-35 mph in far western areas, creating challenging travel conditions. The breezy conditions will continue through Saturday, providing dry but cool weather before the storm’s arrival on Sunday. This system could lead to flooding on creeks and streams across southeastern New Mexico, particularly near low-lying areas prone to water accumulation.

On Sunday and Monday, colder air will deepen, and mountain areas may see snow, with rain persisting over lower elevations. The National Weather Service advises residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert for updated weather advisories and monitor local roads, as sudden rises in water levels could make some areas impassable.

Looking ahead, Tuesday is expected to bring drier conditions, though temperatures will remain cooler. The five-day forecast includes:

• Saturday: Breezy and dry, highs in the mid-50s.

• Sunday: Rainy with possible flooding, highs in the upper 40s.

• Monday: Cold rain or snow in higher elevations, highs in the mid-40s.

• Tuesday: Clearing skies, cooler, highs in the mid-50s.

• Wednesday: Sunny and mild, highs approaching 60.

New Mexicans are urged to stay weather-aware this weekend and plan ahead for potential delays on roadways impacted by flooding.
