Albuquerque, NM – Residents across central and northern New Mexico will see unseasonably warm conditions this week, with temperatures running 5 to 10 degrees above average through Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, highs will range from the upper 70s to near 90 degrees across much of the state through the weekend. Roswell is forecast to reach 90 degrees Thursday, while Albuquerque should hold in the low 80s. A Pacific cold front is expected to bring cooler temperatures to western and northern areas beginning Sunday.
Breezy conditions are also in the forecast. The weather service reports that winds will increase Friday into Saturday, with gusts reaching 25 to 35 mph in parts of northeastern New Mexico. The strongest gusts are expected along highways such as U.S. 64/87 and N.M. 39, creating hazardous crosswinds for high-profile vehicles. Some showers and thunderstorms may also develop as the front passes through.
Looking further ahead, wetter weather is favored next week. Forecasters say confidence is high for above-average precipitation across northern and central New Mexico between October 8–14. Albuquerque, Ruidoso, and surrounding areas have an 80–90 percent chance of seeing higher-than-normal rainfall. Tropical moisture from the Eastern Pacific may help boost rainfall rates by late next week.
For now, New Mexicans can expect several more days of mild skies before winds and rain increase late in the week.
