Albuquerque, New Mexico – Thunderstorm chances are building across central New Mexico, with afternoon and evening storms possible daily through Labor Day, raising concerns for weekend travelers and outdoor events in the Albuquerque area.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, the city could see isolated showers and thunderstorms beginning Friday afternoon, with a 30 percent chance continuing through the weekend. Storms are most likely between 3 and 9 p.m. each day, bringing lightning, brief heavy rain, and gusty winds.

Bernalillo, Sandoval, and Valencia counties should prepare for intermittent rainfall that may impact visibility and road conditions along I-25 and I-40 during peak travel hours. While no widespread flooding is expected, localized downpours could lead to minor ponding in low-lying intersections and arroyos.

Saturday through Monday will remain hot, with highs ranging from 89°F to 93°F. Despite the heat, cloud cover from monsoon activity may offer some afternoon relief. Residents are urged to monitor alerts, avoid hiking during storm hours, and secure outdoor items vulnerable to wind gusts.

Storm chances continue into early next week, with higher confidence in thunderstorm coverage by Tuesday. More advisories may be issued if conditions become severe.
