Albuquerque, New Mexico – A relatively quiet and seasonable winter pattern is expected across New Mexico from Friday through early the following week, bringing temperatures close to average for late winter and limited chances for widespread rain or snow.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, the 8 to 14-day outlook for Jan. 30 through Feb. 5 places New Mexico largely in a near-normal temperature zone. While colder-than-normal air dominates much of the central and eastern United States, New Mexico sits along the western edge of that pattern, keeping extremes in check across the Southwest.

High temperatures across Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Farmington, and Roswell are expected to hover near seasonal averages. Overnight lows will continue to fall below freezing in many areas, particularly across northern and higher elevation communities, while southern valleys and the lower Rio Grande see milder nights. Daytime conditions should feel typical for late January and early February, with cool mornings and modest afternoon warming.

Precipitation during this period is expected to remain near normal statewide. The outlook suggests limited storm activity across the Southwest, reducing the likelihood of widespread rain or significant snowfall. While occasional light snow is possible across northern mountains and higher terrain, including the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan ranges, the pattern does not support frequent or high-impact winter storms. Rain chances across southern New Mexico remain low and spotty at best.

This calmer setup contrasts with wetter conditions expected along the Pacific Coast and colder, drier weather dominating the Plains and Midwest. For New Mexico, extended dry stretches appear likely between weak systems.

Residents should continue standard winter precautions, especially during cold overnight hours and when traveling through mountain passes where brief snow or icy conditions can develop. Additional outlook updates may refine temperature and precipitation details as the period approaches.
