New Mexico – Strong winds and fire danger persist across New Mexico as a high wind warning and red flag warning remain in effect through Wednesday. Winds up to 70 mph could down trees and power lines, with blowing dust creating hazardous travel conditions on I-25 and other major roadways.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will peak Tuesday night into early Wednesday, with west winds of 35-50 mph and gusts up to 70 mph. A red flag warning is also in effect, meaning dry conditions and high winds could lead to rapid fire spread. Residents are advised to secure loose objects, avoid outdoor burning, and prepare for potential power outages.

By Wednesday afternoon, winds will gradually decrease, with Albuquerque expecting a high of 52°F under sunny skies. North winds of 10-15 mph will continue, but conditions will improve.

Looking Ahead:

• Thursday: Mostly sunny, high of 64°F.

• Friday: Sunny, high near 67°F.

• Saturday: Warming trend continues, high of 75°F.

• Sunday: Sunny, high near 72°F.

Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, should use caution, and outdoor burning is discouraged. Winds will subside midweek, giving way to a warmer and calmer spring weekend.
