Albuquerque, NM – Blistering heat continues to grip Albuquerque, with a heat advisory in place until 7 p.m. Thursday as daytime highs soar to 101°F. Residents and visitors face significant health risks, especially during peak afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory remains active through Thursday evening for Albuquerque and much of central New Mexico. Humidity remains low, but the combination of sun and temperatures near or above 100°F can quickly lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or worse. Outdoor workers, seniors, and those without access to air conditioning are at highest risk. Light winds provide little relief, and overnight lows only dip into the upper 60s, keeping the city warm well into the night.

Travelers on I-40 and I-25 should be prepared for heat-related vehicle issues, and residents are urged to stay off trails and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon. City cooling centers remain open, and everyone should check on neighbors or relatives who may need assistance. Hydrate frequently, wear light clothing, and avoid leaving pets or children in parked vehicles.

While Saturday and Monday continue the streak of 100°F highs, a slight chance of evening thunderstorms returns Sunday and Sunday night. Even so, the overall trend stays hot and dry into next week. Expect additional advisories if the pattern persists.
