ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Residents across northern New Mexico are waking up to chilly conditions this weekend, with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque issuing a Freeze Warning for the Upper Rio Grande Valley, including areas from Taos north to the Colorado border early Sunday, Oct. 5. Temperatures are expected to dip near or below 32°F between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., prompting officials to advise protection of pipes, plants, and pets.

According to the NWS Albuquerque, a quiet Sunday will give way to an unsettled work week, as rain chances increase Monday through Wednesday. Forecast models show the highest likelihood of rainfall on Tuesday, when scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms could bring minor flooding in typical low-lying spots and around Ruidoso. Some areas could receive up to half an inch of rain, with heavier totals possible in thunderstorms.

Breezy conditions are also expected in the Albuquerque metro area and nearby highlands on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday afternoons, with east canyon winds developing early Tuesday morning. Gusts may reach 25–30 mph, and stronger bursts could occur near storms.

Residents planning outdoor activities are urged to secure lightweight objects and stay alert for changing conditions.
