Albuquerque, N.M. – Heavy rainfall and repeated thunderstorms will raise flash flooding concerns across New Mexico through early next week, with the highest risks targeting eastern and southern counties. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque warns that storms developing Friday afternoon may produce damaging winds, large hail, and rainfall rates exceeding two inches per hour, especially in low-lying and burn scar areas.

According to the NWS, Friday’s storms are most likely between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., stretching from Las Vegas to Tucumcari and Clovis. Flood-prone regions such as arroyos, low water crossings, and wildfire burn scars could see rapid rises in water. Even six inches of fast-moving floodwater can knock an adult off their feet, and a foot of water is enough to sweep away most cars.

Scattered storms continue Saturday with flash flooding threats across Clovis, Santa Rosa, and Roswell. By Sunday and Monday, activity shifts south, where rainfall totals may surpass four inches. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roadways and be prepared for road closures or delays through midweek.
