ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A stretch of crisp fall sunshine will settle over central New Mexico as temperatures climb into the mid-80s through Tuesday. After a cool 50-degree dawn, calm winds and clear skies will make this one of the best early-October weekends for outdoor plans across the metro area.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, skies will stay mostly clear through Monday with only light south winds developing along I-40 and I-25. Drivers should expect excellent travel conditions during morning commutes and evening returns. By late Tuesday, a weak front could trigger isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds east of the city, especially across the Sandia foothills.

Tuesday’s storms may briefly reduce visibility and produce slick spots on higher routes toward Tijeras and Moriarty. No severe weather is expected, but residents are urged to secure outdoor decorations and monitor changing skies as the front approaches. Fall event organizers — from Balloon Fiesta watchers to pumpkin patch hosts — can count on warm afternoons and cool, comfortable evenings through midweek.

The rest of the week looks calm and seasonably warm, ideal for early Halloween decorating, fall hikes, or leaf-viewing drives into the nearby Jemez Mountains. Temperatures will hover near 80 degrees each afternoon before dipping into the 50s overnight, signaling the heart of fall has arrived across the Rio Grande Valley.
