El Paso, TX – Residents of southwest Texas and south-central New Mexico should prepare for hazardous weather conditions on Tuesday as a Blowing Dust Advisory and High Wind Warning have been issued from noon to 9 p.m. MDT. Strong winds are expected to create dangerous travel conditions and possible power outages.

According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, winds between 40 and 50 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph, will impact areas including El Paso, the Rio Grande Valley, and parts of Dona Ana and Hudspeth Counties. The Blowing Dust Advisory warns of significantly reduced visibility, dropping to as low as a quarter mile at times, increasing the risk for travel disruptions.

The Southwest Desert and Lower Gila River Valley will also experience strong winds, with gusts up to 55 mph under a Wind Advisory. Loose objects may be blown around, and tree limbs could fall, potentially causing localized power outages.

Residents with respiratory conditions are advised to stay indoors to avoid inhaling dust. If driving, officials recommend pulling over and turning off headlights if visibility drops suddenly.

Motorists, particularly those in high-profile vehicles, should exercise caution while traveling. The public is encouraged to stay updated on local weather alerts and prepare for potential power outages due to falling debris and downed power lines.
