Albuquerque, NM – Moist backdoor front arrives today, increasing storm coverage and rainfall intensity across New Mexico. Scattered-to-numerous showers and storms will return each afternoon and evening into next week. High temperatures will vary from a few to around 10 degrees above 1991-2020 averages each day.
According to the US National Weather Service in Albuquerque, the backdoor front will significantly impact the weather pattern, leading to an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity. Areas affected will see high temperatures ranging from 95°F to 105°F, with some regions potentially exceeding these values.
The probability of precipitation will be notably high, with chances ranging from 44% to 72% in various parts of the state. Heavy rainfall from slow-moving storms may lead to flash flooding, especially in areas with recent burn scars.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant as locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding are likely each afternoon and evening. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) highlights that the most significant storm activity is expected from 2 PM to 9 PM MDT.
Looking ahead, Albuquerque can expect temperatures to hover around 99°F today, with a slight drop to 96°F by Friday and 93°F on Saturday. The trend of hot temperatures with occasional storms will continue into early next week, with daily highs in the mid-90s.
