New Mexico – Crisp desert air hangs over Albuquerque this morning, with temperatures in the 30s and clear skies stretching across the Rio Grande Valley. Sunshine will quickly warm the city today, turning the chilly start into a springlike afternoon across central New Mexico.

Drivers along Interstate 25 and Interstate 40 will see clear skies and dry pavement during the morning commute. Temperatures rise steadily under bright sun, reaching around 75°F this afternoon across the metro area.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, calm winds early will shift slightly south this afternoon while skies remain mostly clear. The warm, sunny conditions mark one of the mildest days of the week for the region.

However, meteorologists are now tracking a weak system moving toward New Mexico Tuesday. Clouds increase through the day as moisture spreads across the central part of the state.

By Tuesday afternoon, scattered showers may develop around Albuquerque with about a 40 percent chance of rain. Any rainfall should remain light, but brief wet pavement could affect drivers along I-25, I-40, and city corridors through the afternoon and evening.

Once the system exits, sunshine returns quickly across the region. Wednesday brings bright skies and temperatures near 73°F, creating another comfortable spring day across Bernalillo County.

The warming trend strengthens late in the week. Highs climb toward 77°F Thursday and may push above 80°F by Friday, offering a clear signal that spring warmth is building across the Southwest ahead of the official start of spring on March 20.

For spring break travelers heading through Albuquerque International Sunport or driving across central New Mexico, expect mostly dry conditions with mild afternoons.

Enjoy today’s sunshine while it lasts. Are you seeing clouds building where you live?
