Albuquerque, N.M. – A stretch of sunny skies will give way to storms in central New Mexico this weekend, with Albuquerque facing a growing chance of showers and thunderstorms beginning Friday afternoon and continuing into Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, Friday will stay mostly sunny and warm, topping out near 85 degrees. However, a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms moves in after noon, increasing to 40 percent Saturday and peaking at 60 percent Saturday night. By Sunday, scattered showers are expected to linger, with chances near 50 percent through the evening.
Localized downpours may cause ponding on roads in Albuquerque and surrounding Bernalillo County, with wet travel expected on I-25 and I-40 during peak evening hours. Outdoor events and weekend travel could be interrupted, especially as storm chances build Saturday night.
Residents are urged to prepare for changing conditions by keeping devices charged, monitoring alerts, and avoiding low-lying areas prone to flooding during heavy rain.
Storm risks are expected to ease by early next week, with sunnier, calmer weather returning Monday.
