Albuquerque drivers should prepare for changing conditions late this week, as thunderstorms threaten Friday afternoon before a sunnier weekend takes hold.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, showers and thunderstorms could develop Friday after 3 p.m., especially along major travel routes including I-40. Rain may reduce visibility and lead to slick roadways during the evening commute. Residents are urged to allow extra time for travel and secure outdoor items that could be impacted by sudden gusts.

Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies with highs near 87, keeping outdoor plans safe ahead of Friday’s system. Winds will remain light, offering comfortable conditions before unsettled weather arrives. By Friday night, storms taper off with gradual clearing expected into Saturday.

Weekend weather looks ideal across central New Mexico. Saturday will feature sunny skies with highs in the mid-80s, making it a prime day for Balloon Fiesta practice flights and outdoor gatherings. Sunday continues the trend with dry skies and highs pushing near 88.

Temperatures stay steady into early next week, with sunny days and highs climbing close to 89 by Tuesday. Overnight lows will hover in the upper 50s, offering mild relief.

Scattered showers remain the only threat Friday. After that, New Mexicans can look forward to a stretch of calm fall weather.
