Albuquerque, New Mexico – New Mexico heads into Memorial Day weekend with sweltering heat Saturday before storm chances creep back in by Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, Saturday will top out near 91°F with mostly sunny skies and light southerly winds. While Saturday looks dry and calm, conditions shift Sunday night when a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms moves in. Memorial Day itself stays sunny and warm with a high near 87°F, but by Tuesday, showers could dampen outdoor plans—especially along I-40 where spotty storms may develop by afternoon.

Residents should prepare for sharp temperature swings and plan around pop-up storms early next week. If heading outdoors this weekend, carry water and seek shade, especially during Saturday’s peak heat. Campers and road trippers should monitor forecasts closely starting Sunday night when conditions grow more unstable.

Looking ahead, Albuquerque stays mostly sunny on Monday with pleasant highs in the upper 80s. But by Tuesday and Thursday, NWS models show a persistent 20% storm risk each afternoon with highs near 89°F. Overnight lows remain steady in the mid-50s.

Storms may bring brief gusty winds or lightning, especially during Tuesday and Thursday’s peak heat. While rain coverage remains limited, outdoor plans could be impacted briefly.

Stay weather-aware as weekend heat gives way to storm chances into the workweek. Another update is expected late Sunday if storm coverage increases.
