Albuquerque, New Mexico – Residents should prepare for sweltering conditions as temperatures climb into the triple digits this week. Juneteenth, Thursday, June 19, will bring extreme heat, potentially reaching 101°F. This dangerous heat wave will impact daily activities and outdoor plans across the metro area.

According to the latest National Weather Service (NWS) report, mostly clear skies will prevail Wednesday with a high near 97°F. Winds will remain light, coming from the southeast around 5 mph. The real challenge begins Thursday, with a high of 101°F under sunny skies. Southeast winds will shift to the south at 5 to 10 mph.

The heat continues into Friday, with temperatures hitting 100°F. Saturday will also see a high near 100°F. These elevated temperatures increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents should limit outdoor exposure, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Drink plenty of water and check on vulnerable neighbors. Ensure pets have access to shade and fresh water.

The extended forecast offers little relief from the heat through the weekend. Saturday night remains partly cloudy with a low around 69°F. Sunday, June 22, expects a high near 97°F, with a 20 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Showers and thunderstorms become more likely early next week. Monday and Tuesday show a 40 percent chance of rain, with highs in the low 90s. Warnings remain in effect for the prolonged heat.
