Albuquerque, New Mexico – Temperatures are climbing fast enough to threaten all-time March records by midafternoon, with highs pushing 90°F Friday and nearing 92°F by Saturday across central and northern New Mexico.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a strong upper-level ridge is driving temperatures 20 to 30 degrees above normal through Saturday, while afternoon humidity drops as low as 3% to 9%, creating critical fire weather conditions across the region.
Albuquerque is expected to reach 88°F Thursday, 90°F Friday, and 92°F Saturday, potentially breaking its longstanding March record of 85°F. Roswell could hit 96°F Saturday, while Tucumcari may approach 98°F, intensifying heat stress on infrastructure and increasing wildfire ignition risk along I-40 and I-25 corridors.
Santa Fe, Gallup, and Farmington will also see highs in the 80s, unusually warm for March, while dry air spreads across Rio Rancho, Las Vegas, and Clines Corners. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and limit activities that could spark fires. Hydration and limiting outdoor work during peak heat between noon and 5 p.m. are strongly advised.
A backdoor front arrives Sunday night, bringing slight cooling, but eastern plains communities will remain above normal into early next week. Additional advisories or fire weather alerts may be issued as conditions persist through Saturday evening.
