El Paso, Texas – A dangerous heat wave is delivering scorching temperatures across West Texas and Southern New Mexico, prompting officials to issue urgent safety warnings that will remain in place through Tuesday night. Residents from El Paso to Las Cruces will see temperatures climb between 104 and 109 degrees, creating a significant risk for heat-related illnesses for anyone spending time outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service office in Santa Teresa, a Heat Advisory is in effect for the region until midnight MDT Tuesday. The advisory covers numerous communities, including those in El Paso, Hudspeth, Doña Ana, Luna, and Sierra counties. Officials are urging the public to take the threat seriously by drinking plenty of water, staying inside air-conditioned rooms, and avoiding sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.

The intense heat demands extra caution. Limit strenuous outdoor activities to the early morning or evening. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for outdoor workers. It is critical to check on relatives, neighbors, and pets to ensure they are not showing signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. If anyone is overcome by the heat, move them to a cool, shaded location immediately and call 911, as it is a medical emergency.

The blistering conditions are set to continue through the week. Tuesday will again bring a high of 108°F under mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will slightly moderate for the remainder of the workweek, though conditions will remain hot. Wednesday’s high is near 104°F. For the Juneteenth holiday on Thursday, expect sunny skies and a high of 103°F. The heat continues into the weekend, with a high of 102°F expected for both Friday and Saturday.
