El Paso, TX – A Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect for parts of southern New Mexico and far West Texas, including El Paso and Dona Ana County, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. MST on Friday. The National Weather Service also issued a Wind Advisory for the region, warning of strong winds and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, southwest winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Blowing dust may reduce visibility to as little as one-quarter mile, creating hazardous driving conditions. The advisory affects areas including the Southwest Desert, Mimbres Basin, Tularosa Basin, White Sands, and the Rio Grande Valley.

The strong winds pose risks such as power outages, fallen tree limbs, and difficulty driving, especially for high-profile vehicles. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects and exercise caution while traveling. Those with respiratory conditions should stay indoors as dust and debris could aggravate health issues.

Motorists encountering blowing dust should pull over, turn off their lights, and keep their foot off the brake to avoid accidents. The advisory remains in effect through Friday evening, with conditions expected to improve overnight.
