Albuquerque, New Mexico – Storms are expected to return to central New Mexico by late Tuesday morning, bringing the risk of lightning, brief downpours, and travel delays through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, scattered showers will develop before 9 a.m. Tuesday, followed by thunderstorms between 9 a.m. and noon. Some storms may be strong enough to impact I-25 and surrounding roadways with reduced visibility and slick pavement. Rainfall amounts could reach up to three-quarters of an inch in some areas, especially near foothills and east-facing slopes.

The chance of showers and storms will continue Tuesday night, with the highest likelihood just before midnight. While Wednesday sees only a 20% chance of showers, humidity will linger and afternoon highs will hover in the low 80s. Afternoon winds are expected to remain under 15 mph throughout the week.

Locals should avoid outdoor activities during peak storm hours, check windshield wipers, and monitor road conditions before travel. This pattern signals a classic New Mexico monsoon pulse, though this round is not expected to cause widespread flooding.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday bring drier conditions but still carry slight storm chances. Daytime highs return to the low 90s with mostly sunny skies and calmer winds expected into the weekend.
