Albuquerque, New Mexico – Residents across New Mexico, especially in Albuquerque, face dangerously high temperatures and afternoon thunderstorm chances starting Friday and extending into early next week. Prepare for intense heat, with Friday’s highs soaring to 101°F.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms develops after noon on Saturday, with similar chances through Monday. Highs will remain extreme, reaching 97°F on Saturday and 95°F on Sunday. Lows will drop to the mid-60s each night. These conditions could quickly lead to heat-related illnesses or flash flooding in localized areas.

Throughout the weekend, roads like I-40 and I-25 in and around Albuquerque may see sudden downpours, reducing visibility and creating slick surfaces. Public safety officials urge everyone to limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, typically from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Charge all electronic devices in case of power interruptions from potential storms.

The pattern of hot days and afternoon storms continues into next week. Monday will see a high near 94°F with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Tuesday’s high is 96°F with a 20 percent chance of storms. By Wednesday, temperatures hit 95°F, and the chance of showers and thunderstorms increases to 40 percent. Warnings remain in effect, and more advisories may follow as conditions evolve.
