Albuquerque, N.M. – Thunderstorms could interrupt travel and outdoor plans in Albuquerque this afternoon before clearer skies settle in for the rest of the weekend. The National Weather Service said scattered storms and showers are likely between noon and 9 p.m. Saturday, with gusty winds and lightning possible.
According to the agency, rainfall totals will stay light, less than a tenth of an inch in most areas, but heavier pockets are possible within thunderstorms. Drivers on I-40 and I-25 should watch for sudden downpours and reduced visibility during peak storm hours.
Saturday night will bring gradual clearing, with lows near 60 degrees. Sunshine returns Sunday with highs near 89 and light southwest winds, offering a much calmer end to the weekend.
Early next week looks hot and dry, with highs in the lower 90s Monday and Tuesday under mostly sunny skies. Another round of thunderstorms is possible by midweek, when rain chances climb back to 30 percent Wednesday afternoon.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items this evening and remain indoors during lightning. Weather advisories may be updated if storms intensify.
