Socorro, NM – New Mexico State Police are intensifying their search today for a man accused in a deadly parking-lot shooting that occurred Wednesday night in Socorro, leaving a 22-year-old victim dead and a community on alert.
According to the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau, officers with the Socorro Police Department were dispatched around 9:38 p.m. to the area of College Avenue and Leroy Place after witnesses reported gunfire and a person down. Responding officers found Quentin Sisneros, 22, outside a black Chrysler sedan with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Socorro General Hospital, where he later died.
Investigators learned that minutes before the shooting, a separate altercation unfolded in the same parking lot. During that confrontation, the suspect—identified by police as 21-year-old Anthony Alvarado—allegedly exited a vehicle carrying an AR-15-style rifle and confronted a juvenile connected to a past relationship involving his girlfriend.
As this confrontation occurred, a black Chrysler sedan driven by Sisneros entered the lot. Police say Alvarado allegedly believed the vehicle belonged to the man involved with his girlfriend. He then opened fire at close range, striking Sisneros multiple times. Investigators do not believe Sisneros was the intended target, calling the incident a likely case of mistaken identity.
Alvarado reportedly fled the scene on foot. Witnesses later returned and provided statements to investigators.
A warrant has been issued for Alvarado on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated assault, abuse of a child, and several counts related to shooting from a motor vehicle. Police warn he is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information is urged to contact NMSP at 505-841-9256 or call 911 if he is spotted.
