Chimayo, NM – New Mexico State Police are investigating a deadly stabbing and house fire in Chimayo. On August 26, officers responded to a home on Private Drive 1405A for reports of domestic violence.

Officers heard a woman screaming for help. As they responded, a second call came in about a structure fire at the same residence. Firefighters arrived to find the house in flames and discovered an unconscious man outside with apparent stab wounds.

Investigators learned that Leonel Andrade Garcia, 42, had fled the scene. He was later found in a nearby field with stab wounds. Authorities transported him to an Albuquerque hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Firefighters rescued a woman, Analiia Morales, 46, from the burning home, but she succumbed to her injuries.

Morales had an active protection order against Garcia, and they were scheduled to appear in court soon. Garcia now faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, arson, and aggravated burglary. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details.
