La Luz, NM – A home invasion in La Luz resulted in the death of a 45-year-old intruder after the armed homeowner defended his family. Authorities are investigating the December 14 incident on Appler Road.
New Mexico State Police reported that Lucas Eli Moore forced his way into the home at 8:48 p.m. despite repeated warnings from the 39-year-old homeowner to leave. Moore entered the kitchen, located near the children’s bedrooms. The homeowner, fearing for his family’s safety, fired one shot, striking Moore.
Police confirmed Moore attempted to strike the homeowner before the shot was fired. The homeowner immediately called 911. Emergency services pronounced Moore deceased on the scene.
The family, including three young children, remained unharmed. The children were asleep during the incident and did not witness the events.
The State Police Investigations Bureau continues to review the case, which will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office. No charges have been filed against the homeowner.
This incident highlights the importance of home safety measures and rapid law enforcement response.
