Albuquerque, N.M. – Monsoon moisture will surge into New Mexico starting Friday, bringing the threat of localized heavy rainfall, dangerous lightning, and small hail through at least Tuesday. Afternoon and evening storms are expected to intensify as moisture spreads from the Arizona border into central and northern parts of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, rain rates could exceed two inches per hour in stronger cells, raising flash flood concerns in normally dry arroyos, near burn scars, and in areas with already saturated ground. Hazardous travel is possible, especially in areas prone to rapid water rise.
Communities including Farmington, Gallup, Santa Fe, and Roswell face elevated storm chances, with precipitation probabilities climbing to 50–70% in some areas over the weekend. Gusty winds may also down tree limbs or blow around unsecured outdoor items.
Drivers are urged to avoid crossing flooded roads and remain alert for lightning during peak storm hours in the late afternoon and evening. Storm chances and cooler temperatures are expected to linger into early next week.
