Albuquerque, NM – A high wind warning remains in effect across much of eastern and northeastern New Mexico, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph through Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, the strongest winds will impact Curry County, De Baca County, Guadalupe County, Quay County, Roosevelt County, Eastern San Miguel County, and Harding County until 3 a.m. MDT Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Far Northeast Highlands, Johnson and Bartlett Mesas—including Raton Pass—and Union County will continue to experience dangerous wind conditions until noon MDT Wednesday.
The powerful winds are expected to cause widespread power outages as trees and power lines are downed. Travel conditions will be hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and RVs. Motorists are advised to delay travel if possible and remain alert for debris on roadways.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items such as trash cans and patio furniture to prevent damage. Those in affected areas should also prepare for potential power outages by charging devices and having emergency supplies on hand.
Wind speeds are expected to gradually diminish by Wednesday afternoon, improving travel and safety conditions across the state.
