Albuquerque, N.M. – Much of central and northwestern New Mexico will swelter Thursday as temperatures climb into triple digits, triggering a heat advisory for Albuquerque, the Rio Grande Valley, and the Northwest Plateau.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, the advisory remains in effect from noon to 7 p.m. MDT Thursday, with temperatures expected to range from 100°F to 104°F. The alert covers the Middle Rio Grande Valley—including the Albuquerque Metro Area—West Central Highlands, and Northwest Plateau.

Residents in Albuquerque, Gallup, Grants, and Farmington should avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours. Prolonged exposure could lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Officials urge the public to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure, and check on vulnerable populations, including the elderly and pets.

Outdoor workers should schedule breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, following OSHA guidance for extreme heat. Heat stroke symptoms—confusion, dizziness, and unconsciousness—require immediate medical attention.

Temperatures are expected to drop after sunset, but another advisory could follow if the heat persists into the weekend.
