Albuquerque, NM – A Freeze Warning remains in effect across northern and central New Mexico until 9 a.m. MDT Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque.

The advisory, issued at 11:33 p.m. MDT on Thursday, October 16, 2025, impacts areas including the Northwest Plateau, Upper Rio Grande Valley, Española Valley, Estancia Valley, Far Northeast Highlands, and San Agustin Plains.

Forecasters report that temperatures will fall to around 28°F in most areas, with a hard freeze near 20°F expected in parts of the Upper Rio Grande Valley. Such conditions can kill sensitive vegetation and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing if precautions are not taken.

Residents are urged to wrap or drain water pipes, cover tender plants, and bring pets indoors overnight. Even a brief hard freeze can mark the end of the growing season across higher valleys and plains.

Temperatures are expected to recover slightly by late morning Friday, followed by a gradual weekend warm-up.
