Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico residents should prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures as a widespread freeze warning goes into effect tonight. Albuquerque and surrounding areas will experience temperatures plunging to near freezing levels, affecting Halloween night plans and prompting early precautions for plants and pets. The National Weather Service (NWS) has advised residents to take preventive steps to protect outdoor vegetation and ensure pets have warmth overnight.

According to the NWS, tonight’s temperatures in Albuquerque will drop to around 28°F, marking the first widespread fall freeze of the season across New Mexico. With skies mostly clear and calm winds, the cold conditions will persist into Thursday morning. The high temperature on Thursday is expected to reach around 63°F, bringing sunny skies but continuing the chilly trend.

The cold weather will give way to warmer conditions on Friday and Saturday, with highs reaching 71°F by Saturday. However, rain showers are expected to return to New Mexico late Friday and continue through the weekend, primarily in southeastern areas. Albuquerque could experience scattered showers starting Sunday night, with a 40 percent chance of rain that may extend into Monday.

Residents should prepare for potential rain accumulation next week, which could lead to slick roads and travel disruptions in some parts of the state. The NWS encourages locals to stay updated on weather alerts, particularly if planning travel over the coming days.

This week’s shift from freezing nights to rainy conditions by next week highlights New Mexico’s dynamic fall weather, urging residents to remain vigilant about upcoming forecasts.
