Albuquerque, N.M. – Overnight temperatures are expected to plummet across northern New Mexico as a Freeze Warning takes effect from midnight through 9 a.m. Saturday, with lows dipping to around 28 degrees in the Española Valley and Far Northeast Highlands.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, subfreezing temperatures will create hazardous conditions for crops, outdoor plumbing, and sensitive vegetation. Frost and hard freeze conditions could damage gardens and unprotected plants, marking one of the coldest nights so far this fall.

Residents are urged to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and protect outdoor pipes by draining or wrapping them to prevent bursting. Farmers and gardeners across Rio Arriba and Colfax counties should prepare for possible losses to tender vegetation overnight.

The cold snap will ease after sunrise Saturday, but forecasters warn additional frost advisories could be issued if clear skies persist through the weekend.
