Albuquerque, New Mexico – Scorching sunshine and near-record highs will grip Albuquerque on Sunday as temperatures soar to 99°F, triggering a summer weather alert for heat safety across central New Mexico.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, Sunday, June 29 will bring dry, hot conditions with light afternoon breezes and minimal cloud cover. By Monday evening, however, a slow-moving disturbance could trigger scattered thunderstorms across Bernalillo County and surrounding areas, particularly along I-40 and near the Sandia foothills.

Travelers and residents are urged to hydrate, limit outdoor exposure, and watch for shifting conditions Monday night as thunderstorm chances increase to 20%. Gusty winds, lightning, and brief downpours may impact commutes or outdoor events, especially east of the metro area.

Tuesday through Wednesday will stay mostly sunny in the daytime, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Nighttime thunderstorm risks persist both Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, again with a 20–30% chance of activity. While widespread storms aren’t likely, isolated cells could briefly disrupt evening plans.

By Thursday and the 4th of July (Friday), chances for afternoon thunderstorms grow slightly (30%), but daytime highs remain around 90°F, ideal for morning parades or early barbecues before possible late-day storms.
