Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico will see a break in widespread storms through midweek before rain chances rise again heading into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque.

From Tuesday through Thursday, moisture levels are expected to fall near or below normal, particularly across northern New Mexico. Storm coverage will remain isolated to widely scattered, with precipitation chances generally ranging between 10 to 25 percent. This pattern reduces the likelihood of flash flooding, including in vulnerable burn scar areas.

By Friday and into next weekend, conditions are expected to shift as a Pacific weather system approaches from the west. Forecasters say above-normal moisture will return to the state, increasing storm coverage, especially across western and central New Mexico. Rainfall probabilities rise to between 15 and 45 percent Friday and Saturday.

With the increased storm activity, the risk for flash flooding is expected to climb into the low to medium range, particularly in areas with recent wildfire burn scars. The National Weather Service is urging residents and travelers to remain alert to changing weather conditions and to avoid crossing flooded roadways.

The agency’s safety reminder: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
