Albuquerque, NM – Residents in central New Mexico are bracing for bitterly cold conditions tonight, with wind chills dropping as low as -10°. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Thursday, prompting residents to bundle up and take precautions against hypothermia. Temperatures will dip to 12° overnight, making this one of the chilliest nights of the season.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory includes portions of central and northern New Mexico, including areas along I-25. Winds from the north will combine with freezing temperatures to produce dangerous conditions. By Thursday, sunshine will return, but high temperatures will only reach 37°.
Friday brings much-needed relief, with highs climbing to 43° and calm winds. The weekend promises even better weather, with Saturday and Sunday highs near 50°, offering a break from the cold. Overnight lows will stay above 20° for the first time this week.
Residents are urged to check on vulnerable neighbors and ensure pets are sheltered overnight. The National Weather Service also advises against using outdoor heaters or grills indoors due to carbon monoxide risks. If traveling along major roads, such as I-25, motorists should prepare for icy patches, particularly early Thursday morning.
For those looking to plan ahead, sunny skies and mild temperatures in the 50s are expected to persist into early next week, making it a good time to enjoy outdoor activities.
