Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico is preparing for an increase in storm activity across the western half of the state. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque has issued a warning for residents to expect even stormier conditions on Friday, with a heightened risk of flash flooding, particularly in areas with recent burn scars.

According to the NWS, the storm coverage is expanding today, with widespread rain anticipated from noon to midnight. Precipitation chances vary, with regions like Farmington and Gallup experiencing a 69% and 66% chance of rain, respectively. The excessive rainfall outlook indicates potential flash flooding in central and western parts of the state.

On Friday, the storms are forecasted to intensify, bringing an increased threat of flash floods, especially in mountainous areas and regions affected by recent wildfires. Rainfall rates could reach up to 2 inches per hour, contributing to the flood risk.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the weather pattern will shift, bringing hotter and drier conditions early next week. Temperatures are expected to rise, with highs reaching the mid-90s in many areas, while precipitation chances will decrease significantly.
