Albuquerque, NM – Strong winds are set to impact parts of New Mexico and Colorado on Thursday, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph, prompting high wind warnings across the region.
According to the National Weather Service, the warnings will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. MST in central, east-central, north-central, northeast, and southeast New Mexico, including areas such as the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Sandia and Manzano Mountains, and the South Central Highlands. The San Luis Valley in Colorado, including Alamosa, Del Norte, and Antonito, will also be affected, with the warning in place until 6 p.m. MST.
Forecasters warn that sustained southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, could bring down trees and power lines, leading to potential power outages. High-profile vehicles may experience hazardous driving conditions, especially in areas prone to blowing dust that could significantly reduce visibility.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects and take precautions when traveling. The National Weather Service recommends staying indoors, avoiding windows, and exercising caution if driving is necessary.
