New Lenox, IL – Police are warning drivers to steer clear of the south side of New Lenox tonight after a Canadian National train caused both Gougar Road and Nelson Road to become blocked between Illinois Highway and Laraway Road.
According to the New Lenox Police Department, north- and southbound traffic is being diverted in the area, and there is currently no estimated time for when the issue will be resolved. Officers are asking motorists to avoid the affected intersections until further notice.
The blockage has disrupted evening traffic near the rail crossing, a busy route for commuters heading toward Laraway Road and I-355. No injuries have been reported, and officials have not specified the nature of the train issue.
Drivers in Will County should expect delays and consider alternate routes through Cedar Road or Schoolhouse Road. Police said updates will be shared on the department’s Facebook page as information becomes available.
