Wheaton, Ill. — The City of Wheaton Government announced today that two changes are being implemented on the Gary Avenue Improvement Project. Both will be effective Friday, June 27, to open temporary lanes for improved traffic flow and make changes to access Rosie O’Reilly’s.
The City plans to shift traffic on Gary Avenue between Prairie Avenue and Jewell Road. New temporary lanes will be added to allow two-way traffic between these two roads where construction has taken place. The most recent development to this section made the road a one-way with a flagger alternating traffic. The temporary lanes are meant to decrease delays while allowing crews to continue work on Gary Avenue.
At the south end of the area, crews will begin work to reconstruct the roadway. Due to this change beginning on Friday, Rosie O’Reily’s can be accessed from north of the business instead of Harrison Avenue. Drivers should use the temporary access drive to get to the business.
Next steps for the Gary Avenue Improvement Project include completing the reconstruction and widening of the road north and south of the bridge. Then crews will work on reconstructing the bridge. More information about the improvement project can be found online.
