Mount Holly, New Jersey – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. EST Saturday for large portions of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, with heavy snow, sleet, and light ice expected to create hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

In New Jersey, the warning includes Warren, Sussex, Morris, Somerset, Middlesex, and Western Monmouth counties. In Pennsylvania, Monroe County is also under the warning. Impacted cities include Newton, Morristown, Somerville, New Brunswick, Freehold, Washington, and Stroudsburg.

Forecasters expect total snow and sleet accumulations between 4 and 7 inches across much of the region. In Morris and Sussex counties, snowfall totals are forecast to reach 5 to 8 inches, with local amounts up to 10 inches possible, particularly in higher elevations.

A light glaze of ice is also expected in some areas, especially where sleet mixes in. Snowfall rates may reach up to 1 inch per hour Friday night, significantly reducing visibility and making road conditions hazardous.

The National Weather Service warns that travel could be very difficult, especially during the Friday evening commute, as roads become snow-covered and slick. The highest snowfall totals are expected in northern portions of the affected counties and elevated terrain, while southern areas may see more sleet mixing in.

Officials advise motorists to avoid unnecessary travel if possible. Those who must drive are urged to keep emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, in their vehicles.

Drivers can check the latest road conditions by calling 511 in their state.

The Winter Storm Warning is scheduled to expire at 10 a.m. EST Saturday, though lingering snow and icy conditions may continue to affect travel into the morning hours.
