Atlantic City, New Jersey – Drivers across Atlantic County are facing near-instant whiteout conditions Saturday morning as fast-moving snow squalls sweep through South Jersey, freezing roads within minutes and slashing visibility to under a quarter mile. The heaviest impacts are unfolding along the Atlantic City Expressway and the Garden State Parkway, where sudden bursts of snow and wind gusts over 35 mph are creating dangerous travel conditions during the morning drive.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a radar-indicated snow squall moved into southeastern Atlantic County shortly after 8:20 a.m., racing southeast at nearly 40 mph. The warning remains in effect until 9 a.m., with a second squall earlier affecting Gloucester, Cumberland, and Salem counties, including I-295, Route 55, and the New Jersey Turnpike.
Communities from Atlantic City and Ocean City to Pleasantville, Somers Point, Absecon, and Mays Landing are seeing wet pavement freeze rapidly as temperatures drop behind the squall. Bridges and overpasses are especially vulnerable to black ice, increasing the risk of spinouts and sudden slowdowns.
Officials urge motorists to slow down immediately, avoid unnecessary travel, and be prepared for abrupt visibility loss. Conditions can deteriorate in seconds with little warning. Additional snow squalls may redevelop through the morning, and further advisories could be issued as the system pushes offshore.
