PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Showers are tapering off across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware as fall air sweeps in behind a cold front. Breezy northwest winds will clear skies by this afternoon, dropping temperatures into the 40s overnight and ushering in a notably cooler and drier stretch to end the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, highs Thursday will only reach the low 60s under abundant sunshine. Frost and even a few freeze spots are possible late Thursday night, especially across interior New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. Lows will bottom out in the 30s north of I-78, with low 40s closer to Philadelphia and along the coast. Residents are urged to protect sensitive plants, outdoor plumbing, and pets from the chill.

Minor coastal flooding is expected with Thursday morning’s and possibly Friday’s high tides along the Atlantic coast and Delaware Bay, linked to King Tides. Low-lying shore roads may see brief closures or ponding, particularly near Atlantic City, Cape May, and Lewes.

Farther out, forecasters warn of a developing coastal storm that could bring strong winds and significant tidal flooding from Sunday into early next week. Coastal residents should monitor updates closely and prepare for possible travel restrictions or power outages if the system strengthens.
