Trenton, NJ – A quick burst of wintry weather is causing early travel concerns across North Jersey and the northeastern Pennsylvania corridor this morning as rain transitions to snow before 8 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service Mount Holly, precipitation is changing from rain to a period of light snow along and north of the I-80 corridor. The window for wintry travel impacts stretches from about 5 a.m. until 8 a.m., with a coating to one inch of snow expected, particularly in the higher elevations from Sussex County, NJ, to the Poconos.

Forecasters say untreated roads may become slippery as snow briefly intensifies during the transition. Even small accumulations could lead to reduced visibility and slick spots during the early commute, especially on elevated or secondary roads.

Elsewhere across New Jersey, rain is forecast to taper off from west to east through late morning. While areas south of I-80 are less likely to see snow, lingering clouds and chilly conditions will persist into the afternoon. High temperatures are expected to remain in the 40s for most of the region, with colder pockets in the northern counties.

NWS meteorologists emphasize that this event is short-lived but may still cause localized travel delays for morning drivers. Commuters are encouraged to allow extra time, reduce speed, and use caution on rural or untreated roads.

No additional wintry impacts are expected after mid-morning, and conditions should gradually stabilize through the remainder of the day.
