Trenton, N.J. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to sweep across much of South and Central New Jersey through 7 p.m. Wednesday, bringing the potential for damaging winds, hail, and lightning.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for 10 counties, including Camden, Gloucester, Atlantic, Burlington, and Monmouth. The watch is in effect until 7 p.m. EDT and signals that conditions are favorable for severe weather to develop.
Residents in Ocean, Cape May, Salem, Cumberland, and Mercer counties should stay alert as storms could strengthen rapidly. These storms may cause power outages, downed trees, and hazardous travel—especially on major roads like the Garden State Parkway and I-295.
Emergency officials advise securing loose outdoor items, charging devices, and staying indoors during any warnings. Beachgoers and those near the coast should monitor changing skies closely, as lightning can strike even before rain begins.
Storm threats are expected to diminish after sunset, but additional weather alerts could be issued depending on storm development.
