Mount Holly, N.J. – Rain showers will dampen much of New Jersey through Wednesday night, with the heaviest rainfall expected along the shore from Cape May to Atlantic City. Inland cities such as Trenton and Philadelphia will see lighter totals but should still prepare for wet commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a coastal low-pressure system is steering bands of rain northward along the I-95 corridor. Coastal areas could pick up 1 to 1.5 inches of rain by midweek, while totals closer to Philadelphia and Trenton will remain closer to a quarter inch. Farther north toward Morristown and the Poconos, rainfall may not exceed a tenth of an inch.
Cloudy skies, persistent northeast winds, and scattered showers will keep highs cooler than normal. Philadelphia is expected to top out in the mid-70s Tuesday, with Atlantic City staying near 70. Drivers should plan for slick roads, especially near the coast, and allow extra travel time during the evening rush.
Showers will continue spreading north overnight and into Wednesday as the system lingers. The National Weather Service notes additional advisories could be issued if rainfall bands strengthen.
