Philadelphia, PA – Residents across New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania, and northern Delaware should prepare for dangerous heat and potential flooding as oppressive humidity and high temperatures grip the region through Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a coastal flood advisory is in effect tonight for tidal areas along the Delaware River and upper Delaware Bay. Minor flooding is likely during high tide cycles, impacting communities from Trenton and Philadelphia southward through Wilmington and Dover.

Friday’s heat will escalate rapidly, with high temperatures reaching 96°F in Philadelphia, 97°F in Trenton, and heat indices soaring to 105°F in many urban centers. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are possible, adding to the risk of hazardous travel and sudden power outages.

Emergency managers urge residents to avoid non-essential travel during peak heat hours, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. For those in flood-prone neighborhoods, move valuables to higher ground and monitor local alerts for changing conditions.

Heat advisories may be upgraded by Friday morning if current trends continue. Additional updates and possible warnings will follow as the region faces both flooding and extreme heat risks through the end of the week.
