Trenton, NJ – A late-season chill is expected to sweep through New Jersey overnight, prompting a Frost Advisory that could affect sensitive vegetation across several counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, covering central, northern, and southern parts of the state. Counties included are Middlesex, Mercer, Salem, Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, Ocean, Cumberland, Atlantic, and surrounding areas. Temperatures are expected to dip to as low as 32 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing frost to form during the early morning hours.

Residents across impacted areas, including Trenton, Cherry Hill, Freehold, and Glassboro, are urged to take precautions to protect tender plants and outdoor vegetation. Uncovered sensitive plants may be killed by the cold snap.

Portions of northern Delaware and southeast Pennsylvania, including Wilmington, Philadelphia, and Reading, are also under the advisory. Officials recommend covering plants with cloth or bringing potted plants indoors overnight.

Frost advisories are typical in spring as cold air masses linger into warmer months. This event follows a stretch of milder weather, making the sudden dip more impactful for gardeners and farmers.
