Trenton, NJ – Scorching temperatures and dangerous humidity will grip New Jersey, Philadelphia, and northern Delaware on Friday, with heat index values soaring as high as 107° in some communities. Residents are urged to take immediate action as an Extreme Heat Watch goes into effect from Friday morning through Friday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly and New York, the heat will be felt across a wide stretch of the region—including Trenton, Camden, Glassboro, Philadelphia, Wilmington, New Brunswick, Norristown, and all of Bergen, Essex, Passaic, and Union Counties. Heat index values between 105° and 107° are expected, raising the risk of heat-related illnesses for anyone spending extended time outdoors.
Officials warn that car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes—never leave children or pets inside vehicles. Air conditioning is the best defense: check on neighbors, especially seniors and those with chronic health conditions. Limit strenuous activities to early morning or late evening hours, and drink plenty of water. If your home lacks air conditioning, visit designated cooling centers or public spaces with A/C.
Roads, schools, and utilities may see minor disruptions due to the extreme heat. This event is expected to be among the most dangerous heat episodes so far this summer, rivaling late June’s heatwave. The threat continues through Friday evening, with possible updates or expanded advisories if conditions worsen.
Stay alert for additional warnings as the heat wave develops through Friday.
