Trenton, NJ – A statewide wildfire risk warning has been issued for New Jersey as dry conditions and strong winds increase the threat of fast-moving fires.

According to the US National Weather Service in Mount Holly and New York, a Special Weather Statement remains in effect Saturday, March 29, due to elevated wildfire danger. Southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, combined with relative humidity around 30 to 35 percent and temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s, create optimal conditions for fire spread.

Central and Southern New Jersey are currently under “High” fire danger, while Northern New Jersey is rated “Moderate,” per the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. The continued drying of fine fuels significantly increases ignition potential. No campfire restrictions are currently in effect, but officials urge caution, especially in grassy or wooded areas.

Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning, secure trailers to prevent dragging chains, and extinguish cigarettes completely. Any fire that starts could spread quickly and be difficult to contain.
