Newark, NJ – New Jersey residents are being advised to prepare for rapidly changing winter weather as several Alberta Clippers may bring pop-up snowstorms every other day from Saturday, December 7, through Friday, December 13, according to early meteorological guidance. The pattern may lead to recurring travel concerns across northern, central, and southern New Jersey as winter conditions intensify.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a strengthening northwest-flow pattern will steer multiple clipper disturbances from the Great Lakes toward the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast next week. These fast-moving systems—often grouped as the “Clipper Express”—are known for producing sudden snow bursts, gusty winds, and quick shifts in temperature.

The first disturbance is expected Saturday night, with additional clippers likely arriving every 48 hours through next week. While snowfall totals remain uncertain, the NWS warns that even brief accumulation may cause slick roads during peak travel times across Newark, Jersey City, and communities along the I-95 and Garden State Parkway corridors.

Forecasters note that the exact track of each clipper will determine snowfall distribution. Northern New Jersey—including Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and Bergen counties—typically sees greater impact under this pattern, while central and southern regions may experience lighter but still fast-forming bursts of snow depending on system strength.

Travel impacts could extend from New Brunswick and Trenton to Toms River, Atlantic County, and Cape May as the entire state remains within the path of the active jet stream steering these disturbances.

The NWS encourages residents to track forecast updates closely, as timing and intensity may shift with each arriving wave between December 7 and 13.
