Newark, NJ – New Jersey will kick off December with a surge of Arctic air as an Arctic Blast arrives Monday and continues through Friday, Dec. 5, ushering in a more wintry Cold December pattern statewide. The system will bring falling temperatures, brisk winds, and periodic rain-and-snow chances from north to south.
According to the National Weather Service, early-week disturbances will trigger rain and snow showers, especially Monday night into Tuesday as colder air moves in behind a passing front. Northern New Jersey and higher elevations may see more frequent snow showers, while coastal areas lean toward a rain/snow mix.
Temperatures will slip into the 20s, with teens possible across inland and northern counties. Breezy conditions may push wind chills even lower, especially during the overnight and early-morning hours. Light snow or flurries may briefly affect travel, though accumulations are expected to stay minimal.
NOAA’s 6–10 Day Temperature Outlook places New Jersey solidly in the below-normal temperature zone for Dec. 1–5, reflecting a widespread cold push across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Forecasters say this pattern may persist into mid-December, with additional opportunities for light snow as storm systems track along the boundary between cold and milder air.
While a major winter storm is not currently expected, residents should prepare for a colder, unsettled start to the month with occasional slick spots on untreated surfaces.
